Welcome

A weekend for the love of tango music and dancing in milonguero style.

Osito Milonguero is a traditional encuentro in Berlin for tango friends from all over the world who share a love for tango music and dancing in milonguero style.

To make this possible, we want to create a space where everyone feels comfortable and can dance for hours. The hall of the historic Kulturhaus Peter Edel gives us the best conditions for that: good acoustics and excellent wooden parquet. With a well-tuned sound system and the irresistible music selection of experienced encuentro DJs, we want to tempt you to dance all weekend, until your feet fly across the parquet.

The name Osito means little bear or teddy and is a homage to Berlin's heraldic animal. But the sight of it also awakens in us the need for a warm embrace. And what would tango be without the abrazo?

The Ositos — Berlin's heraldic animal, in an embrace

Our philosophy

When we dance, we want everyone to feel at home.

We — Renée, Sam, Jan-Henrik and Helle — are long-standing enthusiasts of the European tango and especially the encuentro scene. We love dancing in a close embrace and are convinced that considerate interaction on the dance floor, without sweeping figures, is the best condition for everyone to enjoy the dance and the music.

That is why we place great value on respectful and friendly interaction and take the observance of the usual códigos on and off the dance floor for granted:

  1. Invitation by mirada and cabeceo
  2. Changing partners, and a willingness to dance with people you haven't danced with before
  3. Eye contact with the next leader before entering the floor
  4. Keeping your own place in the ronda
  5. …and a smile for everyone

Music from the golden era, for the ronda

Belgium

I have been deeply involved with tango for 25 years; over time I arrived at the milonguero style.

In Antwerp I organise the Milonga Milonguero Nieuw Kwartier and the encuentros Boca Antwerp, Sélys Milonguero and Xmas in Embrace.

For more than 17 years I have played at milongas, festivals and encuentros in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Latvia and Spain. My selection is danceable and full of energy: music of the golden age, put together with care for the pista.

I am Italian and live in Lisbon. I first met tango in 2004 while walking along the Seine — and was fascinated at once.

Since 2011 I have been organising tango events in Lisbon, among them the Milonga da Lua, and I play at milongas, encuentros and festivals across Europe and the United States.

For me every milonga is unique: every tanda tells a story, every tango recalls moments already danced. My music should not fill hours, but connect the music, the dance and the people on the floor.

I grew up in Andalusia, where flamenco and music are deeply rooted in everyday life. In 1997 I discovered my love for tango at the tango festival in Granada; since then it has taken me to Argentina, Uruguay and to many events across Europe.

Since 2018 I have devoted myself to tango professionally. I live in Bruges and work as a dancer, teacher, organiser and DJ.

Every milonga is an emotional journey for me. My focus is the tango of the Época de Oro, complemented by colours from other times — music that lets energy and connection grow on the floor.

Italy

I entered the world of tango in 2005 and began studying tango music right away. Soon I was invited to play as a TDJ at a regular milonga in my province.

After that I played at many milongas in Apulian towns and beyond the region, later also in France, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Austria, England and Spain.

My preference is the tango of the golden age: I stay with the music of the 1920s to the 1950s and look for the right energy on the floor in every moment.

I have been working with tango music and DJing since 2014. My selection reaches from the Guardia Nueva of the 1920s to the Época de Oro, which for me begins in 1935 and ends in the mid-1950s.

I care about consistent tandas with a small dramaturgy, so that flow and energy on the floor are right, and about good sound: the best available recording, clean and with little surface noise.

Since 2019 I have also been giving talks about the great tango orchestras and running the internet radio Tango-Radio-Berlin.

I live in Berlin, a city of tango. Ever since I heard my first tango more than 20 years ago I have been collecting Argentine tango music — for dancing as much as for listening.

My music can be heard at milongas in Berlin, nationally and internationally, and I have played sets at several encuentros milonguero.

My selection mirrors my own taste in dancing: lively, joyful and powerful, with a touch of melancholy, yet warm at heart. What I like best is seeing people smile while they enjoy the dance and the music — with the finest pieces of the Época de Oro.

Venue

Kulturhaus Peter Edel, Weißensee

The encuentro Osito Milonguero takes place at the Bildungs- und Kulturzentrum Peter Edel in Berlin-Weißensee. The building at Berliner Allee 125 looks back on over 100 years of history and was completely renovated in 2020 and brought up to current technical standards. Our encuentro takes place in the 300 m² hall and the adjoining rooms.

Getting there

You will find the Bildungs- und Kulturzentrum Peter Edel in Berlin-Weißensee, Berliner Allee 125, 13088 Berlin. Our venue is easiest to reach by public transport. The nearest stops are Albertinenstraße and Weißer See, served by tram lines M4, M13, 12 and bus 255.

There are no publicly accessible parking spaces directly at the hall, but you can usually find a spot in Albertinenstraße or in the Komponistenviertel (Bizetstraße, Meyerbeerstraße, Gounodstraße, Chopinstraße, Smetanastraße).

The eventful history of the house is well documented on the cultural centre's own pages: peteredel.de/historie

We have reserved room allocations without breakfast at a hotel close to the venue for 14–16 May 2027. You can also book extension nights before or after Osito, and add breakfast to your booking. With the confirmation for the event we will send you the keyword you need for booking. The allocations are held until six weeks before Osito and then return to the hotels for open sale.

One request: if you have to cancel, please cancel your room as well. The allocations are limited, and that way someone else still finds a place.
